Cathy Cottrell, the First Secretary, Head of Commercial Section at British Embassy to Ukraine, opened the event. Such relevant topics as British pig genetics, world experience in fighting against ASF, legislation on by-products of animal origin in Ukraine were discussed during the forum.
Challenges of the industry:
- Economic decrease (purchasing power of population)
- ASF;
- Adaptation to European norms;
- State regulation.
In general, an increase in demand for the products of the industry is noted (the share of consumption makes up 39%) and the growth of production makes up 1,5% per year. Decreasing of ASF risks is solved by decrease of number of pigs in small household segment.
